Artist Statement for My Abstract Wildlife Pieces –
Art for Environmental Change.
As an artist, I believe creativity has the power to inspire people to look more closely at the natural world and to value what is so often overlooked. My work is driven by a lifelong passion for wildlife and a deep respect for the environment and values that were shaped during my childhood in Botswana, where I grew up camping, exploring nature, and rescuing injured animals, from barn owls to water monitors and snakes imagine how my parents felt when i arrived home with yet another creature to save.
Today, that connection to nature remains at the heart of my work. Many of the animals I paint are endangered species, chosen deliberately to celebrate their beauty while raising awareness of the fragile future they face. Rather than focusing solely on loss, I aim to create artwork that encourages appreciation, curiosity, and a desire to protect the incredible wildlife that shares our planet.
My abstract and wildlife paintings use bold, contrasting colours and expressive textures to immediately capture the viewer's attention. I want people to stop, to look, and to connect emotionally with the picture before discovering the deeper environmental message behind the work. Colour becomes a tool for conversation—drawing people in and inviting them to reflect on the importance of conservation.
As a self-taught artist based in Wells, Somerset, I create work that bridges beauty and purpose. Whether through original paintings, exhibitions, prints, or collaborations, my goal is to make environmental awareness accessible and engaging, inspiring people to recognize that the world's most extraordinary creatures deserve not only our admiration but also our protection.
I believe art has a unique ability to spark conversations that facts and statistics alone cannot. Through my work, I hope to encourage a greater appreciation for endangered wildlife and remind people that every species plays a vital role in our natural world. If my paintings inspire even one person to care more deeply about conservation, then my work has achieved something meaningful.
